Summer is in the AIr

Does everybody know the terrible news in my school that has been going on for now 4 years? You can ask for Adina Hershberg if you are interested in the answer. Well, whether you want to know or you don't, I will tell you. I have an EXTRA and I mean EXTRA month of school. How would you feel that your suffering pressure, homework, tests AND everyone else outside playing around without school? Well, I am glad you didn't. But I am a witness that has had it for 4 years. To look on the bright side (which there isn't a lot of) I am going to leave a week early before school ends! And you know where I am going - America sweet America! You know I am going to see (now, now, don't just think about yourself) - Grandma Bette grandpa paul grandma judi grandpa saul aunt linda uncle michael grandma bev aunt dara nicki jason ethan (imagine I am sayng this all in one breath) all smashed up in the blender for three weeks (eewwwwwwwwwww) and I will be coming into the bender to see them! OK, I can't continue, after all I just ate! You know what I had? Rice, stir-fried hot dog, and salad!
OK, OK, OK, how in the world did I get from complaining about the extra month of school to what I had for dinner 7 minutes ago. Really good question. I mystery that will never be solved... Sigh. OK, I am getting now into writers mode. Oh no! I am going out of controlllllll!
I sat by the windowsill waiting for her, but little did I know, that I will never hug her again. Suddenly, there was a figure coming, getting bigger and bigger, but hard to see because of the hard rain. I ran to the door hoping it would be her, but instead I saw my father, soaking and dripping from the harsh rain. "Papa" I called in delight seeing that at least he was safe. "My little angel" he whispered. "I have bad news -" my eyes dropped, I was not wishing to hear it, but I kept quiet, papa looked at me in concern and continued "-Mama, will not come back.". "Why?" I asked as if I did not know the answer. Papa didn't answer, but slowly sat down on the couch. Suddenly he seemed like a really sad person, like half of his life was taken away from him. Suddenly, I got really scared.
Wow! I just made that up on the spot did you like it? Should I continue? Let me know!

Math Test!

Well, you know this year has been very hard for me from all of my pressure, and I was not getting 100s all in a row, so I'd like to celebrate my math test in geometry (which I hate) for getting an 100. Yay!!!

Story I wrote for english.

This is the beginning of the story, and if your intrested I could send you a link for the rest:
Caught up in Secrets by Adina Hershberg
----------------------------------------

"Now girls, bring your assignments up to my desk" said Mrs. Levine. Mrs. Levine is my english Teacher in 6th grade. She loves surprising my class. It can be really annoying. Correction. It is really annoying. "Now girls, when your done giving the assignments to me you can go back to your reading.
I sighed, OK. Enough about Mrs. Levine, more about me. I am Gavriella Rosenberg, everyone calls me Gab. I live in Beit-Shemesh in Rechov Hatzipor 14. I am eleven years old desperately wanting to be twelve, and I also really want a baby sister. I have three little brothers and no sisters. The second to oldest (if you can't tell yet, I am the oldest kid in my family) is Tzvi who is 8 years old. He is spoiled (well, that is what I think) and is really into jokes and planes. My other brothers are twins - Eitan and Noam - that are 6 and in 1st grade. I sort of go to admit that they are cute. EVERYONE thinks thy are adorable. Don't get me wrong - I still love my siblings, but in a way of brothers and sisters. But I guess you know what I mean.
I am born to dance, sing and act, but not school. School, I guess, is OK. I don't read fast by myself and I don't like the quiet in it. I do like Torah, Navi, and math. Correction. I love math the subject, but not the teacher and the class. The teacher can not
2
control the class and the class is just to easy! Sigh, I got to get back to my reading...
I am reading a book called The Report Card by Andrew Clements. I usually don't judge books I read, but I have to say that it is a really good book.
"Now girls, your homework is question 32-40 in the papers I gave you". I sighed for the second time. I opened my yoman and wrote the homework in the bottom of the page - not because I wanted to but because it was full of homework I need to do today. I heard the bell - BRRRRRINNG "Now girls" Mrs.Levine said. "you can leave." Have you realised that she always says 'now girls'?
"So, what a class!" That was Dvora. Here is a fact: she is my best friend. Here is another fact: she has 4 brothers and 3 sisters, and her mother is expecting! Dvora is extremely smart. Sometimes, its hard to have a friend that LOVES reading. It makes me feel dumb, but she is trying to convince me that if I tried a little bit more than I do now about books, I would also love reading. But believe me, I've tried many times.
"What day is it today?" I asked to no one in particular. "Monday, January 25, 2009" - Dvora answered. How in the world does she know these stuff?
My birthday is on March 15, which is when I going to turn into Bat-Mitzvah. I am learning the Chameshet Megillot with my Dad. "Dad and I are printing the invitations after I get home from school" I told Dvora. "Then I have Jazz and Hip-hop for two hours" I continued. "Also," I added, "It's pizza night!" As I was saying that we got on to our bus. Dvora took her MP3 out of her backpack, and gave me an earphone. She put on "Lecha" from Chevra, and we both sang quietly - "Lecha, Hashem hagdula, hashem hagdula vehagevura - " "You know Gab" Dvora said "you really DO have a beautiful voice." I said thanks and blushed...
When it was our stop, we got off the bus. "Goo' bye" I called. "Bye!!" Dvora yelled.
I got home, said hi to my siblings and Mom. I asked Mom, "Where is Dad?".
"Dad is at work in the end, honey" Mom answered. In case you don't know, my father works in computers, and my mother teaches twice a week at a Seminar for ba'ali tushva because she likes it there. "Oh..." I said disappointingly. "I guess I will do my homework now..." - In my family have a rule that you can not do anything fun such as going to friends to play with them or going to chugim.
I clutched my bag and took both of us to the kitchen table. I took out my yoman and sighed. I started working. When I was in the middle of figuring out a hard math problem, Tzvi ran into the kitchen, with a paper airplane and held it in a way that looked like it was flying.
"Ready for landing!" he said in a weird voice, and decided that the plane should land on my math book. My Grandmother is a pacifist, and she told me that whenever you ask nicely, you will get the way you want. I looked up from my notebook and said: "Tzvi - will you please move the airplane? - " I thought for a second and added "Isn't it a beautiful day outside? Right? So the plane should be outside like a real airplane." He was thinking - I could tell whenever he thinks because he scrunches up his forehead and looks very weird like that. He would never admit that someone else is right. After a small silence Tzvi said - "OK pilot, ready for take off!"
I kept on working, and finally at 5:30 I finished my homework. As I was closing my English notebook, Dad came walking in. "I'm home!" he called extra loud. "No you're not, you're Dad!" Noam called back (By the way - Noam loves jokes). I could tell that Dad did it on purpose, because he loves Noam's jokes.

OK. Did you like this? Please let me know! Send me an e-mail because I need to send it to you for Google Reader reasons.

OK? I am SO jealous. Oh well, I am happy for her too. I missed her too too!
We went to Gramps and Nana for the seder and I made my delicious Charoset (everybody say that you love it in the comments - we need proof!) Here is the recipe for people that are interested in:

Ingredients:
1. 200 Grams of Walnuts
2. 1 container of date spread
3. 1/4 cup of grape juice
4. 1/2 cup of Honey
5. 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
6. 1 tablespoon of ground Cinnamon
7. 1 orange
8. 3 big red apples

How to make it itself:
1. Chop the walnuts intill it breaks in to little pieces and put them in a large bowl
2. You add to the large bowl the Date Spread, Grape Juice, Honey, Vanilla extract, and the Cinnamon.
3. Wash well the orange and grate the orange zest (in the middle hole), but only the orange part, not the white. Add the zest to the bowl and squeeze the juice into the bowl.
4. Wash well the apples and grate them too (now in the big hole). You do not need to peel the apples, and don't grate the core. Add the apples too.
5. Mix well all of the ingredients, and move it into a toperwear with a top. Put it in the fridge for a couple of hours.
THE END! Translated by Ladies and Gentelman Adina Hershberg (but a little help from Mommy and Abba)
I need to go now, but I will tell you later about Passover or otherwise known as Pesach itself and how I am going to be Famous!!!! Stay tuned.

Stopping to clean for JUST 2 seconds (just joking mommy)

As you can see from the title is that I have been working like a house elf (the understanders will understand)! Well, to tell you the truth, not really... But don't tell mommy! Today was my first day of Pesach vacation!! Doesn't that totally rock dudes (or dudets)?? Today I went to a BIG field trip with my youth group - Ariel (rocks) with my group - it's called Nitzanim (rocks even more) with the one and only ME (rocks the most)!!! My foot is SO SO sore!! The actual hike was very good! Everytime I had my English class the past month my friends and I would make a signal (like s.o.s).
I did once: "G.U.O.O.J" (get us out of jail [school]). So this time I am doing now: "I.A.B.O.O.M.G" (I am bored out of my guts), so guys, I mean dudes, I mean dudets, I mean crazy people, I mean punkies. AAAAAAHHHHHH! I don't know what I am doing! I meant that if you have any ideas for what to do (not including stuff that I am not alowed to do), tell me! I mean mua, I mean Adina. WOW! I am actually crazy!

What's new?

Well, purim was great! I gave out a lot of Mishloach manot, and got a lot of it too. Then we had lunch downstairs from our house with 3 more families. All the fathers got so drunk! They started dancing in front of everyone and yelling and it looked like they had lots of fun. The thing was that I was freaked out! Abba got so drunk that he just lye down on the middle of the road AND when I asked him what his password was for his computer - he told me! Than they day after it was Sara's English birthday! The day after that, Grandma Bette and Grandpa Paul came from America. I came home half an hour late form school (because of the stupid bus), but I was still just as happy to see them. They gave me the movie "Carissa stands strong" - an American girl movie. Thank you grandma and grandpa! Shabbos was pretty nice. A lot of Frisbee playing and hanging out. On Sunday and Monday I did not go to school because grandma and grandpa only came for 4 days. On Sunday we went to this little art store where you can make arts and crafts. I got a glass plate and I decorated. I am going to give it to Grandma Bette and Grandpa Paul, but since we left it at the little store because it was a little wet, I will send it a little late, with a little sorry. Then we came home and had home made pizza! After that Grandma and Grandpa took me out for some shopping - 2 tank-tops and 2 skirts. THANK YOU!!!! The next day we went to "Givaat HaTurmusim" - a gorgeous hill with tons of flowers and had a hike there - it was great! Then after a few hours grandma and grandpa took Yosha-bear and Ferri to get toys at the toy store. Yosha-bear got the Soccer game and Ferri got this toy sewing machine and accessories. Then we went to Pinati - a REALLY good Israeli restaurant! Grandma and Grandpa left the next morning - boo hoo hoo!
That is it for now! Ta ta!

That is Sara and Yosha-bear and me, my bags I sewed for purim myself and a nice picture of the kotel - and I took them all myself (except for me)

News for free! News for free! Come to read it!

Right in a lot of times in the posts I tell you what "IN"? So this is what "in" - girls in my class are practicing to be grandmothers. Of course it is not being lazy! Okay, if you keep guessing it would still be not right. This is the answer: (get ready the trumpets and the trombones) Knitting!! I mean I just taught last week 2 girls how to knit! Isn't the wacky and groovy?
If we are talking about knitting - I am going to learn how to knit a hat!!! Mrs.Barbara Silverman which is a knitter right across the street is going to teach me! Ms.Adina Chava Hershberg will be knitting a hat for Ms.Sara Batshava Hershberg!!!!! The buyer for the knitter is Mrs.Rachel Hershberg!!!!
I have very bad news right now. Guess?! Whatever!!!! My school canceled my Chemistry class!!! It is so unfair!!!! I mean - I loved it!!!!
Nicki and Jason are coming this week - and I will miss school on Wednesday!! I am so excited!
Also, today I am going to a wedding to mommy's students! Also, there was a book sale at my library and I went last night. But since it was at night it was for "grown-ups" there was not much for the kids like me. I did get Ramona forever - a classic for 5 shekels which is 1.203255$.
Nothing else is really going on! Luv ya!!!

My cast is off!

I told you I will tell you what happens, so here it is:
I got the cast off yesterday by an electric round saw that sawed it, what was really funny about it is that it tickled! Then I took my first step, it was scary, my muscles on my right foot had gotten so small that you would not think that they were supposed to be for one person. When I walked my muscles were so sore! It still hurts, mommy and abba say that will have to take a couple of days till it stops hurting. I will not need anything! I do not need physical therapy, a brace - anything! YAY!!!
Also in the poll, 10 people voted for "What would you rather get as a present?" And the winner is... An amazing new book!!!!!!!
There is a new poll also.

I told you I will tell you!

Well, I did! I came home at 9:15pm last night with crutches (!) and those 15 minutes at the 9:15pm, Abba and I were trying to figure out the best way to hop up those 36 steps. Here is what happened: well, while we were waiting ( Abba and I ) in the waiting room Abba called this place were they save crutches, wheelchairs and so on. And guess what? They were out of crutches! There was one more place that could of had crutches, but it did not open till 8:30pm! So we went then, and if they did not have crutches we would have to go to Jarusalem! Well, thank god I do have crutches. A lot of people asked where it was broken. Well, finally last night the Doctor explained it to my father. While he was explaining he was pressing on my foot to know where it hurt the most, so I was in a lot of pain, so I did not exactly listen. Though I know that Abba knows! When all my friends sign there name on the cast I will take pics and put it on this blog. By the way Grandma Judy - my cast is brown, just joking! It is white, well I am happy about that because you can see what people wrote on the cast.

Doctor Call changes everything!

Hi!
Well, my doctor called this morning saying that in the end it IS a brake. So half an hour ago I came home from the orthopedist with a cast on. I will have the cast for 2 weeks, and if I see you, you are welcome to sign my cast! If you want, e-mail me , and I will right your name on the cast as if like you wrote it. I am getting crutches later tonight, and tomorrow I might be going back to school.
Love,
Adina

News... News??? News!!!

I am really sorry that I did not post on the blog for a while. Here is a couple of thing I would like you to know (or I need you to know, you choose):
1. I know there is no spaces between the lines on the posts, FYI I have been aware of it, and I am trying to solve it.
2. The Hershberg family finally got our computer back - thanks to Gramps!!! He figured out every thing. I guess it helps to be an artist sometimes. Because sometimes there are paintings that need a final touch, and artists somehow find out what the final touch should be, anyways, THANX!!!
3. Baruch Hashem, the war ended between Israel and Gaza, but I also think that Israel should still bomb Gaza after they have done to us. Well, also, I am not so nervous anymore. But those Arabs still get on my nerves.
4. Believe it or not, I fell on my foot on Shabbat, and I could not put any weight on my foot since then. I went to the Doctor Yesterday morning and he said that I have a sprained foot. He also said that if tomorrow it still hurts when I put my weight on my foot, I should get an X-ray done. That day I went to work with mommy with an ace bandage on my right foot and missed school. Boy, were everyone was so caring!!! When mommy and I came home I went on a Piggy-back ride on mommy's back on the stairs leading to my house. Today it till hurt, so I got an X-ray. Then mommy and I went back to the doctor, and he said that was NOT a brake, and boy, was I relieved! If your asking hoe I got up those stairs leading to my house (36 steps to be exact), here is the answer: I went again on a Piggy-Back ride on Abba this time. I guess there is a good side for everything because Dr.Benuck wrote a note for my Gym teacher that I can not do gym class for a week. I am SO happy! I really want to thank Mommy and Abba and Yosef and Ferri and Sara for being there for me the past few days! I really owe you guys!!!! If there is new news about my foot, don't worry - I will tell you!
5. In my school for 5th grade and 6th grade there is a special Science class for girls that are good in Science, and I got picked, and I am one of four girls that got picked. OUT of the 32 girls in my class. Guess what were learning??? CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!!! I love it!!! I am learning about acids, and I think it is amazing!!!
6. This year there is this thing for 5th graders that we do for a couple of weeks: we have swimming classes. We have them because some girls in my class do not know how to swim, but most of the girls know how to swim so they just practice. Fortunately I am in the Practicing kind and not in the learning how to swim kind.
7. On this Wednesday there is a Chinese Auction for charity, and I bought tickets with my own money!!! I hope I win something!!!
8. I did some research: That from Israel to Philadelphia is 9,321.74 kilometers!!! Also that Israel to Kansas city is 10,609.46 kilometers!!! Also that from Israel to Palo-Alto is 13,004.46 kilometers!!! Isn't that cool?
The end!
Thank you for letting me waste your time!

Some quotes from Google Reader

I thought these are amazing:
Russel Lynes - "Every journalist has a novel in him, which is an excellent place for it."
Dr.Thomas Fuller - "Get the facts, or the facts will get you. And when you get them, get them right, or they will get you wrong."

I am scarrred steeff llleike crrrrazy.

As you can see I am an Isrraaeli, viff an akcent. Now if you pleaase, I have a british accent. Now pahhdon me, I am scaaaed stiff. Now like, and totally I am like totally an American. You know what is in season? Well, designing a different outfit for each person in the world. You know, when you think of lets say a British person you suddenly think of those soldiers with long furry hats? Well, It's tuns of fun!!! An American has a t-shirt saying I love NY, and some shorts. An israeli, is more different: You see, there is Charedim, Datyiim Leumim and Chilonim (all different kinds). So a Charedi is a man that has one of those long robe with furry SHORT hats. A dati Leumi is a girl with a 'Gush Katiff' shirt, and skirts to the knees and crocs. Okay, okay, okay, OKAY! I will not do it again. I always get overboard (well, I also get over-bored).
Okay, I also have not say proper Hello. (okay, now imagine that I say it one long breath -) Hello! How are you? I am good! I am happy that your good too! Whoa, okay, I am going to fast. Well, I am not that good. Don't ask me why!! Okay, Okay, it's about the war (duh). I am scared stiff... I mean, they put up signs in each class to go to this certan place when there is a siren when a bomb comes. That means that they are getting ready, which is NOT a good sign...
Now, they had a weight and height test at school, and the nurse did not say anything so I don't know if it is a good sign or a bad sign...
I got to do my homework! Guys, I am not having e-mails, Shame on you!!!
Love,
Adina

By the way - new war coming!

Okay, how are you? Well, I have some stuff to tell -
- Happy 2009!!!!!!!!!! Well, get ready, my Bat-Mitzva is on 2010!!!!
- Thanks to Sue and John for the book 'Little Women" for Chanuka!
- Abba asked me if I would like to learn programming on the computer - sounds interesting!
- Saddest and last - the war between Israel and Gaza. Well, Hamas is being bombed like there is no tomorrow. I am very happy about that! But also, now also Gaza is bombing all over. I actually have a best-friend that moved from Beit-Shemesh (her name is Ashira Major) and she did not go to school because of the danger, and this place called Gadera is being bombed and it is like 7 minutes away of where Ashira lives ( it is called Yad-Binyamin ).
Also, now that I have done some research Beit shemesh is 40 kilometers from Gaza so there is NO way that the bombs will come to me.
Here is something funny - my friends are real Republicans in their soul and you know what they said the day after the elections? They were going on and on how Obama is bad for Israel. So a couple of days ago my friend which was the most Republican of them all said: "Well, now I don't think Obama is going to be so bad because he let us bomb Gaza."
Here is something funny that came from the war: Well, on Wednesday my English teacher did not come so we had a different teacher that which taught me 1st grade English (which is really funny!). So she talked about the war and she told us we need to write letters to the soldiers that are fighting. So one girl asked, "Should I write my name?" So my teacher said you should ,but if you don't want to, you can write, "A girl from Beit Shemesh in 5th grade." So another girl asked, "Should we write our phone numbers or addresses?" So my teacher said, "No. This is not a dating service." And I can tell you that everyone BURST out laughing!
That's it! There isn't any more!
